Gorkha:
Gorkha ia an ancestral hometown of Nepal’s ruling which is situated at 140km west of Nepal at an altitude of 135meter.
Gorkha is most important historical town of Nepal. King Prithivi Narayan Shah the ninth patern ancestor of the present king who has launched his life to unify the independent states of Nepal. “Gurkha” the British term envolved from name of Gurkha which is a soldier of the region. Gorkha Palace and Temple with the outstanding of surrounding valleys and Manaslu range are the centerpiece of Gorkha.
Gorkha Bazaar:
Gorkha Bazaar is primarily a street place where from neighbouring people come to trade. With a few temple but not much worth as visit which provides a good vista of the quiet charm.
Gorkha Durbar:
The main attraction place of Gorkha is Gorkha Durbar. It is a dwelling place of King Prithivi Narayan Shah and his ancestors. Gorkha Palace is built in Newar style as it is quit expressive and as more as important.
Gorakhnath Cave:
It lies in 10m below the southern side of Palace and is the shrine cave temple of Gorkhanath. It is carved out of solid rock and is the important religious sites for Brahmins and Chhetris.
Gorkha is also an few trekking routes in the region like Gorkha to Trishuli an easy treks of 3days. One can walk a long days walk to Beshisahar and is the usual starting point for Annapurna and Manang Treks and also can walk through Beshisahar to Pokhara in 4days.
Getting there:
Gorkha takes five and half hours from Kathmandu four and half from Pokhara and two hours from Chitwan.
Accomodation:
Gorkha Hill resort is rather expensive highscale rate(about US$30) with a great view of the Himalayas. And there is also a very basic lodge closer to the town for about US$8.
